Journey

Louis-Jean is a blossoming new writer, keeping their focus in playwriting, film and poetry. They began their journey in high school,  finding comfort in writing poetry as a fun pastime, release and escape into a new world. Their hobby for writing fizzled out after a couple years in high school, inspiring them to focus their energy on other artistic passions. It's their final year in college when they returned to writing from one playwrighting class, falling in love once again and finally beginning to settle into a style, theatre of the grotesque/horror.

Louis-Jean finds beauty in what is classically deemed "ugly". Louis-Jean finds passion and love in bringing the spotlight to aesthetically unpleasing topics and images, encouraging their readers to not only settle for the hegemonic classification of beauty. Everything about our world is beautiful, the sparkly and those things hidden in the shadows. The things with bumps and bruises, the disfigured, the "broken", etc. As much as we would like to believe, the world isn't only made of sunshine and rainbows. We have to acknowledge all parts of ourselves and understand those parts, the parts we try to hide so fiercely from everyone in our presence, the parts we feel ashamed of even though we shouldn't. The greatest lesson in life Louis-Jean always takes with them is the truth always comes out one way or another. Whether we like it or not, truth needs freedom and truth always get's what it wants. Instead of letting it boil up into one huge explosion, why not approach it head on? Why not live in our truth 100% consistently while we're still actually living? Why not be 100% ourselves all the time?

Their newest accomplishment is self-publishing their first book, Diary of a Young, Black NEG(R)US, on Amazon. The book is a collection of poems, chronologically dating back to when Louis-Jean was 13-years-old. Louis-Jean responds to the older poems as her current self, reminiscing on the past, things that may or may have not changed, lingering hopes, etc. You can purchase the book on this site for special delivery or Amazon.

In the near future, Louis-Jean will be acquiring their masters in writing and continuing on to travel the world, exploring the many cultures of literature.
